A Small (but Mighty) Moody Dressing Room

Pre-S: This room makeover was completed for Hello Sunshine magazine. While this post will dive more into the design process and my personal choices, click here for the editorial, shot by the lovely Scarlet O'Neill and check out my tips for easier mornings.

How sweet it is to be changed in you!

I really hope you all sung that to the tune of Marvin Gaye's How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You). And if you did, I want to stop... and thank you baby ;)Anyhow, life lately has been a cocktail of stress and the unknown mixed with happiness and progress. I'm in limbo as I await to hear if we're renewed for a second season of Save My Reno so I've been taking the time to really evaluate what I truly want next while I renovate my bathroom. On the home front (literally), I finished my dressing room, a project I've been meaning to tackle forever. The smallest room in the house (at 8' x 9') and the one taking the cake for having the least light, we've used our third bedroom for myriad functions since we moved in three years ago: it was my original office before I moved into my current studio room, then it slowly became a catch-all for crap before I decided to redefine it as a committed dressing room. Problem was I didn't have tons of space. So many closet systems and wardrobes wouldn't fit and of those units that technically would, I couldn't actually get them down the narrow hall into the room. So I had two choices: buy a system that I'd build in the room (which I may do down the line) or find a few separate pieces that could function as a "closet" in tandem. For now, I opted for the latter and went with this matching night table, chest and dresser.Paired with moody deep green walls in Benjamin Moore's Lafayette Green, a lovely one-of-a-kind rug from eCarpetGallery, this pink pouf (US shoppers link), an umbrella tree (in this cute pom-pom basket) and lots of mirrors to reflect the light, it feels pretty luxurious to get ready in there. It may not be the biggest space, but the fact that I have a dedicated room just for dressing feels pretty special--and all it took was some rich paint, taking the time to plan, measure and find the right pieces, and toss in a few accessories. In closing, it feels super-appropriate to leave you all with this lovely song: [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/258276156" params="color=d6bcbc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]x, S   SaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSave
